Shock and Awe

Warming up in Tokyo here with early sakura “shock and awe”. Make sure do the right thing in a couple weeks and chill underneath the trees with food, drink and friends if you’re in town.

Internet meets art

Our client Google held a press conference yesterday to announce the introduction of “Artist iGoogle”. If you haven’t yet discovered iGoogle, it lets you create a personalized home page, filled with whatever gadgets are of interest to you. Google Japan is collaborating with artists including Airside, Lily Franky, Hibino Katsuhiko, Kitamura Nobuhiko (Hysteric Glamour), Kuma Kengo, Nigo (Bathing Ape), Nagi Noda, Tezuka Osamu and Yamane Yuriko Shigeki. Each artist has created his/her own skin design and gadget, which means you can now make your iGoogle home page even more artistic.

Pictured below are team Yamane Yuriko Shigeki, Kuma Kengo, Google Japan President Norio Murakami, Hibino Katsuhiko, Lily Franky and Google Japan Marketing Director Miki Iwamura.

W+K Tokyo is working with Google Japan on the launch of the campaign. Keep an eye out for our online campaign, and be sure to visit the iGoogle Internet cafe that W+K is concepting and producing. It will be held at Roppongi Hills Cafe space from April 12 – 24th.

More new peeps!

We have a few new faces around the office, and a few old friends who have returned.

Mark Okon and Genki Ito have officially joined the creative deparment. Neither are strangers to us, as they’ve both been collaborating on W+K Tokyo LAB for years. Mark joins as a designer, Genki as an animator. Both will be working on LAB and Google. So glad to have you guys here!

Alan Lam also joins as Regional Finance Director, and will be working with both the Tokyo and Shanghai offices on all things “back office.” Alan’s worked in both Japan and China, and will be racking up his frequent flier miles as he shuttles back and forth between the two offices. Welcome Alan!

Finally, Erica Dorn has joined us as an intern, and will be working with us for 2-3 months on LAB and MTV. Erica hails originally from Kobe, and is currently a student at the London College of Communication. Welcome Erica! Don’t let the LAB team work you too hard!
