W+K Tokyo

More new faces

Meet Shinji Tanaka, tech rock star, who recently joined our IT department. In addition to his past IT-related jobs, Shinji also worked as a “media-art engineer” at various art museums across Japan, and as a copywriter.

And this is Ayumi Ito, who recently joined as a studio designer. Ayumi grew up in Nagoya, attended Art Center in LA, and happily returned to her homeland to join W+K. She’s been described by her co-workers as “spunky”.

Seems everyone is happy they’re here based on the standing ovation they received at today’s agency meeting! Welcome!

Phil is now wired

Wired gives Phil huge props for refurbishing gaming arcades and contributing to W+K Tokyo office culture, but mistakenly indentifies the photo of Yone as Phil. Sorry Phil — that’s what you get for not submitting your own photo. Yone, we quite liked the name “Steve” for you, but “Phil” also has a nice ring to it.

We shot in Shanghai, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Florida, and Manchester, and it’s good to be back home in Tokyo again.

Much thanks to the team: Jen, Philip, Julia, Shig, Yoko, Mai, Tomoki, Kanako, Nagisa, Michiyo, and Shun for a job well done.

Check out the print ads (above), the 60 second , 30 second Bryant, and 30 second Pacquiao TV commercials (as well as 15 second Maria Sharapova and Rodger Federer versions) that will be seen throughout the Asia pacific region.

Old School

We live in one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, but that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate retro, especially when it comes to gaming. Phil, in addition to being an art director, is a geek who loves to fix and build things — bikes, computers, furniture. His latest undertaking: old gaming machines. Phil is the reigning agency champion of Super Cobra, circa 1981. We’ll see if Yone (ECD, pictured above) can prevail on his favorite, 1979’s Midway Galaxian.
