Shingo rocks Roppongi Art Night

This past Saturday night, Roppongi held its annual art night, which runs from sunset to sunrise and features a variety of art and music hosted by the surrounding art museums, Midtown and Roppongi Hills.

W+K Tokyo’s Shingo Ohno was one of Midtown’s featured performers. The event’s program gave him quite a nice introduction …
Merce Death is the solo band of a man who also works as an interactive art director for Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo. His style is to create impromptu music using a guitar and loop sampler. He has held a world tour from his own house called “World Tour from My Room” and he has used a tesla coil guitar to create lightning bolts. He likes to amuse himself by mixing music and technology.

Shingo not only amuses himself, but his audience as well, as you can see here from Saturday’s performance …

Keep on rockin’ Merce Death!

Future leaders of beauty visit W+K Tokyo

fit.jpg

20+ future leaders studying cosmetics and fragrance at the Fashion Institute of Technology visited us last week as part of their annual Asia enlightenment tour. Dialogue about the future of Japan, its youth and the apparent decline of the luxury market was intriguing and created lots of good debate. Next step on their journey is Shanghai.

Thanks for visiting again, and we’ll see you next year!

W+K12 recruiting for year 7

Hello WK. This is 12.

Year 6 is winding down. We are well past our half way point, and we are fast realizing that there is little time left to tell our stories through sport, journalism, craft, curation, film, spirit, music, photography, design, digital, type, and fabrication.

We are excited to see another class walk through the giant metal doors adorning this Portland office– The best class yet.

We want all manner of makers, thinkers and doers. We want people who want to bring ideas to life. We want problem solvers and trouble makers.

Send heroes, inspirations and wildly curious parties to wk12 year7 and we’ll take care of the rest.

WK12, the experimental school and independent ad agency housed within W+K’s Portland headquarters, is looking for international applicants as it moves into its 7th year. Advertising experience is not necessarily required — past applicants were selected from widely varied creative backgrounds spanning graphic design, restaurant management, theater, art, law, physics and education. Fluency in English is, however, required. Application due April 1st, 2010.

10 reasons why Iain Tate is looking forward to joining W+K

Although this was announced some time ago, the W+K blog is shamelessly behind in sharing the news that Iain Tait, a founding partner of the London based digital agency Poke, is joining W+K. Forgive us. Iain has been called “one of the most respected creative and strategic digital thinkers” and on April 1 will be joining Dan Wieden, John Jay and Dave Luhr on the global management team.

Some of you may already follow Iain’s blog, crackunit.com. Yesterday’s entry talked about the 10 reasons he’s looking forward to joining W+K. Thought it was worth sharing. And thanks for the plug on W+K Tokyo Lab Iain. We hope to see you in Tokyo soon.
