I am Japanese.
Everything starts now.
The world will take notice and doubt will be erased.
I am a defender that will attack in a split second.
Prayers will be answered.
One moment will last for eternity.
One game.
One play.
And everything will change.

Marcus Tulio Tanaka

Football history is written on the pitch. One single moment can change everything. And we changed the face of the Nike Harajuku initiative zone to activate and get Japan to rally around the player who represents fight, will, and inspiration. We produced a life-size statue made out of a large block of plaster to celebrate Marcus Tulio Tanaka and his moment to Write the Future.

Footballers and fans can tweet their “fighting spirit” at our campaign website at http://nike.jp/football/future/. We are selecting the best comments to then be carved onto the statue at Nike Harajuku. Four cameras are set-up capturing the carving live via Ustream so go to the site and tweet your comments!

Special thanks to Rhizomatiks, the Kawasaki Robot Division,Taiyo Kikaku, Yusuke Tanaka, San Takashima, Hirukawa-san, Akiko Fukuda, Beacon, Root Communications, Deltro, Timetron, and of course the W+K team which includes Frank, Naoki, Shig, Naoki Ga, Kuyama, Rokutan, Kohei, Yoko, Hiromi, Simone, Shuhei, and Dai.

The campaign is live now. More to come soon so stay tuned!

Write the future frenzy begins

We are excited to present and launch Nike’s new global football campaign for this summer.

“Write the Future,” an epic three-minute film, was released online today and will air on TV here in Japan on May 22nd (morning of the 23rd locally) during the European Club Final. The film takes people on a journey that dramatically captures that one moment when headlines are written from a single pass or one strike. Any player’s single act can bring a nation eternal happiness, while bringing others to their knees.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, Fabio Cannavaro, Franck Ribery, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, Patrice Evra, Gerard Pique, Ronaldinho, Landon Donovan, Tim Howard and Thiago Silva, are featured. Special guest cameos are made by tennis legend Roger Federer and basketball superstar Kobe Bryant. Homer Simpson completes the star-studded cast of appearances.

The global integrated campaign, consisting of TV, cinema, print, digital, out-of-home and non-traditional executions, was the restult of an 18-month collaborative effort led by W+K Amsterdam with support from W+K London and W+K Portland.

Our hopes rest on Marcus Tulio Tanaka to “Write the Future,” for Japan 🙂 We are preparing something big this weekend at Nike Harajuku so more to come soon!

The piece was created by W+K TOKYO LAB for the NIKE 78 project. Details of this project will follow tomorrow, so stay tuned!

A visit to Google's mothership

After finishing management meetings in Sausalito, Trish, Frank and Naoki headed to Mountain View to visit the Google mothership. Our client Devin was nice enough to give us a rock star tour. We quickly realized that it’s no wonder Google is so successful — they’ve created an environment so idyllic that no one ever needs to leave!

View overlooking the outdoor dining area. We saw at least 3 cafeterias. Naoki was psyched they had sushi.

Beach volleyball anyone?

And yes, a pool. A lap pool, but still, a pool.

You can drop off your laundry where magic Google elves will take care of it for you.

They didn’t know what to do w/the extra doors, so they hung them on the walls.

Need IT help … just swing by the friendly neighborhood tech stop (no doubt open 24/7.)

A lot of famous people visit Google. This Googler has made it his mission to photograph himself with all the celebrity visitors.
