Inventors and Makers

On the last day of our management offsite a group of inventors and makers turned the mission church in to a science fair, courtesy of an organization called Make, a group of DIY and tech enthusiasts that make some amazing stuff.

Day 3

Today’s highlight was a discussion with Xeni Jardin, blogger, tech culture journalist and co-editor of Boing Boing. She talked about how she and her partners’ wanted to create a blog that isn’t cruel, her amazement with the way young people are reinventing the Internet beyond what even she imagined, and the unique challenges of being a woman in the tech industry.

Another lovely dinner tonight, after which everyone gathered around the fire pit for s’mores (and cocktails.)

Global get together, day 2

Very full day today. Kicked off with a presentation from John Jay, followed by office updates from India, Amsterdam, London, Tokyo and New York. Guest speaker BJ Fogg from Stanford’s Persuasive Tech Institute finished the day with a talk about “hot triggers” and behavior change.

The day’s highlight: a surprise visit to Alcatraz, including a private tour and an on-site dinner.
