W+K Tokyo

Ken Waragai is a big deal in LA

Hold on, is that Ken Waragai from W+K Tokyo on CNN? Yes, yes it is. And according to CNN iReport “the tourists from Tokyo were actually the highlight of my day.”
Kerpow, take that Ben Affleck’s moving speech, Jennifer Lawrence falling over and Daniel Day-Lewis stand-up comedy.

Ken, this one’s for you buddy.

New Faces at W+K Tokyo

W+K Tokyo recently welcomed two new colleagues into our office.
The sincere Kenny joins us as a strategic planner and peace-loving Ama-chan as a copywriter. Kenny and Ama-chan worked for same company before joining us. They come with an invisible thread between them, and we’re delighted to welcome them here.

Kenny loves exploring and re-discovering Japan. He often takes trips to small towns and villages throughout the countryside, traditional places and the roads less travelled. We’re very happy to add Kenny and his planning smarts to the W+K family.

Ama-chan is a Nagano native where the winters are long and cold, so he is already worried about melting by the big windows in our Nakameguro office during the summer. He is a great listener with a very peaceful aura, a soft smile and great hats.

Welcome both!

Happy Valentine’s day

W+K Tokyo celebrate St. Valentine day in very unique way.

Feel the LOVE,  Touch the HEART, Wear the “PINK”??

In Japan, we celebrate St.Valentine’s day in a rather unique way compared to the rest of the world…

Girls give chocolates to boys on February 14th.

That’s the rule here! So Japanese girls are very busy finding and making special chocolatey treats for their lovers.

If you go to any shopping mall in February, you will see so many girls at the sweets section, and some of the best chocolate you will ever see.

This may seem quite one sided… but on March 14th, it’s “White day” .

“Yes girls. We get our own back”

I’m sure the boys have enough time to think what to get for their girls…

I love St. Valentines day :p

New Tokyo Ondo

Yesterday we were visited by the talented artist Nukyu, who won Japan’s Campus Genius Award in 2012. Nukyu’s animation “New Tokyo Ondo” was her first ever piece of animation work and ended up winning Gold.

若さと才能に溢れるアーティスト ぬQ さんがW+K Tokyoへ遊びにきてくれました。

彼女の最初のアニメーション作品 “ニュ〜東京音頭” は、2012年学生CGコンテストで金賞に輝きました。

The inspiration behind this animation comes from when a building in front of Nukyu’s house was demolished, allowing her to see the bright lights and skyscrapers of Shinjuku from her window, which she imagined as a distant island city. Accessible only by a long train journey, Nyuku began to imagine how much easier it would be to reach the island if only her arms were to grow longer.

Take a look at Nukyu’s wonderful world from this fantastic short animation

Thank you Nukyu.

We presented her with a W+K Tokyo “Good Shit” T-shirt to say thanks.

Make the W+K block into something cool project

W+K Tokyo has been patiently waiting for the W+K block letter project to reach completion and take pride of place at the entrance at our office.

Kei and Yuki have been working tirelessly, putting in hours and hours of hard work on our office balcony. Blood, sweat, tears, wires…

All of this hard work has paid off, and we will soon be able to welcome our eagerly anticipated W+K block. We can’t wait!

Please check and follow Kei and Yuki’s creational journey on Tumblr.
