ACC Grand Prix

We got a nice call yesterday to let us know that our Nike Baseball “Pledge” TV commercial won the Grand Prix and Minister of Internal Affairs & Communications Award at the ACC awards this week in Japan. A lot of talented folks put a lot of love into making the spot, and it’s nice to get some love back.

“Nothing has been decided”

7 years. A long time, or no time at all?
Think back, a lot changes in 7 years.
But more importantly, think forward. Where will you be in 7 years? Where will Japan be in 7 years?

JUST DO IT.

NOTHING HAS BEEN DECIDED.

THE MOLD HAS NOT BEEN CAST.
YOU ARE NOT A LABEL. YOU ARE NOT A UNIFORM.
AND YOU DO NOT BELONG TO SOMEONE ELSE’S EXPECTATIONS.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU WANT TO BE. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE?
NOW’S NOT THE TIME TO THINK SMALL.
MOVE. EXPERIMENT. DO WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU COULDN’T.
THEN DO IT BETTER. YOU CAN ONLY FAIL IF YOU QUIT TRYING.
WHO YOU WILL BE, TOMORROW, NEXT WEEK,
OR 7 YEARS FROM NOW, WILL BE DECIDED TODAY.

JUST DO IT.

W+K Tokyo Summer Matsuri

Summer in Japan is hot, but it’s also a great time of year to party and there are many fireworks events and matsuri festivals held around the country. Our own end-of-summer matsuri was held in the office and included traditional snacks, games and limited edition W+K Tokyo happi (thanks studio). Photos below.

More pictures on our Facebook page and dotted around on Instagram.

New Faces at W+K Tokyo: Summer Update

Over the last few weeks there have been some new faces around the W+K Tokyo office.

Tom joined us as Studio Manager last month. He originally came to Japan to compete in an ironman event, and somehow never found his way back home to Australia. Still a triathlete and avid runner, Tom is now keeping our studio in shape.

And more new studio faces: Ayano joined us as a designer, bringing smiles, great design talent and occasional outbursts of ballet.

Born in Korea, raised in California, served in Iraq, and now working in advertising in Tokyo, YJ first came to Japan in 2002 and became fluent in Japanese through a love of Japanese TV, manga and Gundam. He also sounds a lot like Louis Armstrong if you put him in in front of a karaoke machine.

Tomo is the newest member of the W+K Tokyo finance team, and until a few years ago he was living, working and surfing in Hawaii where he qualified as a CPA.

Akashi recently joined W+K Tokyo part-time while he completes his studies. He’s football crazy, and founded the brilliant art magazine LIKTEN in 2009.

Yuta is interning with us this summer in studio. Currently studying design in Milan, Yuta also spent 9 years studying in the UK and rumor has it he’s a pretty nifty rugby player.
